Orbitz refuses to refund despite their website error

Long story short, tried to make a hotel reservation with Orbitz , got a message “your transaction failed and cannot be completed at this time” from their website, so I made a mistake and assumed , ha ha, that since the website told me the transaction failed that I did not have a reservation, well apparently I had one of these “ghost transactions” and was charged for a no show.  After fighting Orbitz for a refund of a “ghost transaction”  I was refused a credit card refund as apparently when I signed up for an Orbitz acct I agreed to terms and conditions that said basically in the fine print, if the Orbitz website messes up its not Oribits fault.

So Orbitz beat me for $100, the credit card rep told me that the travel websites have more disputes then most catagories of businese and Orbitz has more disputes of the travel websites.

I’ll stick with the direct hotel websites and airline websites from now on!

I hate to tell you this, but the reason Orbitz is not refunding people is not because you signed the agreement that if they mess up, it’s not their fault. It IS their fault. The real reason they are not refunding you is because they have run into a HUGE cash crisis. They are publicly held (symbol OWW) and they are tanking BIG TIME. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were out of business before the end of Q1 2009. They opened at around $18 and are trading way under $3 on most days. They just paid their former CEO - who had SIX CONSECUTIVE QUARTERS OF STAGGERING LOSSES a golden parachute of $2 Million to go away, and screw up some other company. What you need to do is deny the credit card charge and dispute it with your credict card company, otherwise you (and LOTS of other people) will be out some serious bucks unless you get your money back NOW. They lost over $128 Million in the 3rd quarter of 2008 and their 4th quarter losses (usually the industry’s worst period) have not been reported yet. So - denythe credit card charge ASAP or you’ll never see it again.
